How I met the former president of India - Akhin, CEO - SPAIRO
Oh my God!!
Was it a dream?!!
One fine morning our computer instructer Mr.Sreejith came up to meand said
“Akhin. You are going to meet APJ Abdul kalam!!”
My legs betrayed me.My eyes welled up. I am going to meet the great scientist who made India one of the super powers in space and missile technology. Moreover he is my dearest role model, a personality the children all over the country love and worship. My ambition too is to become a scientist. I have done many scientific projects .
Oh I started in the middle.Let me explain. On Februvary 17 this year, the former president of India and a great leader, Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam came to Wayanad to launch Kerala state`s first comprehensive educational web portal Arividom. Two promising students from each school of Wayand was selected to have a special session with APJ. In my school around 3000 students study. So I thought I would never get a chance to meet the great scientist. So when I knew I was selected, I was totally shocked.
Last year I joined AFRC India and I am very happy to be part of this year`s Leadership Village summer school. Last year`s training I got from AFRc raised my confidence and this year when I joined a new school(WMO- Muttil) I showed a lot of leadership. So I was given many duties and I was noticed too. I am in charge of the projector and the computer and the video camera of the school. I presented many programs in my class too. I have even shown the Leadership Village blog (last year`s) to my class mates in the big screen.
Back to my story. The programme was held at Chandragiri auditorium.I got a seat in the last row.I was so sad.Suddenly an announcement:
“Due to heavy rain the flight landed in Bangalore. So APJ will reach Wayanad very late”
From Bangalore he had to travel by road for 6 hours. Many would have cancelled the programme, but he didn’t. That’s the greatness of him. On the way to Wayanad many times he called the collector and instructed to give food tp all the students.
Some students left. Our HM asked, do you want to go home?
I said NO. I want to meet APJ.
Some students left. Luckily I got a seat by the side way.
At last , late at night he came. On the way to the stage when he walked I shook hands with him. He smiled. When he returned too I got a chance to shake hands with him. His hands were soft like a child.
There were 800 students in the big auditaurium. He asked :
“ How many of you would like to become scientists?”
Without waiting a second I raised my hand. Then I looked around. Only 3 other students raised their hands. I am very proud. I always wanted to be a scientist and I did many things. But only because of AFRC and Leadership Village I got the COURAGE and mental strength. That’s why this is the third year I came back to my summer school. As long as I am in Wayanad I will come back.
Editor`s note: Akhin is very good in computers and electronics. He is one of the best project designers in Wayanad .He makes videos and animation for AFRC.

School by the Jackfruit tree
We have two summer Schools. Both are small, but very beautiful.
AFRC (Anne Frank Research Centre) at the town centre and the Outdoot Training Centre which is nearly one song time away from town centre.
We love both centres. Outdoor Summer school is surrounded by trees, plants and flowers. We have one jackfruit tree and one mango tree. Two days back we plucked unripened mangoes and ate it with salt. Manoj climbed the tree and plucked it for all of us.
Previous day we talked about jackfruit, as the lovely smell enveloped our classroom and lo, one big jack fell.We were given a good piece and with the help of young leaders team, we cleaned it and had our fill. One more thing, Jackfruit is the world`s largest fruit and next May Jackfruit festival is coming up and we are supporting the event as Academic Partners.
We shall give more updates later.Bye

Wohoooo ….At last, the BIG DAY came up and I joined AFRC.. the climb up the turquoise blue stairs led me into that tiny classroom with blue colored walls and yellow curtains.. o wait.. m amritha, a psychology student from Bangalore..now lets get back. so continuing with the ‘entrance story’…. All I see is a bunch of young teenagers crowded around a round table jus talking….talking… talking … and…. TALKING!!!! Wondered whether AFRC is just about talking or is there anything else that I can see n do over here. ..Lol…
But then when u get into this talkatiee- walkatiee gang, (forgot to mention that I m extremely innovative with words and usages.. chill.. I did not join as the English teacher) u are surely gona drop ur jaws off… the gang learns grammar, speech and communication skills… anilji pulled me to the corner with an angelic smile n said.. “ammu.. u need to get started with ur work”.. “okay”, I said then I saw the sudden shift of his expression dat turned into any maths or physica teacher’s.. he gave me a whole intro about leadership village and leadcap which went waaaaaayy above my head.. hmm all that struck me was that I have quite A LOT to do here and learn abpout the institute and its project.. coz, this sprouting seed is far more dynmic than wat u n I can think of and its activities are on a global basis. The TWG (better remember the Talkatiee-Walkatiee Gang!!!) is given a global exposure .. I realized how much jus Walking.. Talking… singing .. making a skit or drama or playing can do for this gang ..
So the first lesson that I learned from the mighy TWG is that a lot can happen within these blue coloured noisy walls… so taking a break from the sophisticated easy chair classrooms with over head projectors and wifi facilities.. time to taste the simple.. yet fun filled … diverse and vibrant learning…..

Leadership Lessons from Leadership Village
Hi friends,
Welcome to Leadership Village YLP !!
Leadership Village is a one in a million concept based on the theory that Leadership is a Decision. With Leadership Villages we aim to develop villages with higher levels of leadership training and leadership activities.The two training tools of Leadership Village are;
1.Leadership Libraries
2.Living Libraries
Leadership village Wayanad has its own Leadership Library founded by books and educational videos gifted by Mumbai IIT and Mr.Paul Lalley, Connecticut, USA.The idea of Leadership Library sprouted in the year 2009 when we collected books from LeadCap and AFRC.
For our Summer school we have decided to select a book each week and for next week it is Frank Bettger`s classic on salesmanship "How I raised myself from failure to success" .For one entire week we shall read and discuss this autobiographical book. Chapter 34 of the great motivational book the great American insurance saleman Bettger, devoted to benjamin Franklin`s Thirteen Subjects. Here is what Mr.Bettger wrote:
"Remember that Franklin was a scientist. This plan is scientific. reject it and you reject one of the most practical ideas ever offered to you.I know. I know what it did for me. I know that it can do the same for anyone who will try it. But it is a sure way."
Franklin`s Thirteen Subjects
Just as he wrote them down, and the order in which he used them.
1.Temperence - Eat not to dullness : drink not to elevation.
2.Silence - Speak not, but what may benefit others or yourself ; avoid trifling conversation.
3.Order - Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.
4.Resolution - Resolve to perform what you ought, perform without fail what you resolve.
5.Frugality - Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself ; ie., waste nothing.
6.Industry - Lose no time ; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.
7.Sincerety - Use no hurtful deceit ; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
8.Justice - Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the bebnefits that are your duty.
9.Moderation - Avoid extremes ; for-bear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
10.Cleanliness - Tolerate no uncleanliness in body , clothes, or habitation.
11.Tranquility - Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.
12.Chastity - Rarely use venery but for health or offspring; never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another`s peace or reputation.
13.Humility - Imitate Jesus and socratese.

A summer school dream >> Ashna
Our summer school started on 1st of this month. we were sooooooooo busy learning tenses, prepositios. We did theatre, group discussions and debates. We are starting a few columns, by which we shall start sharing our dreams, vision and above all our unconventional, but happy way of learning.Let us read the first entry, a regular column on our DREAMS. Welcome to our grammar free tentionless Summer School life. Here we Gooooooo....GEEEEEEEE HEEEEEEEE.........:-)
Everybody have a lot of dreams. The beautiful dreams lead our life. I also have many dreams. but one of the important dream is... I want to become a college lecturer. It is my destination and ambition. because ... I think it is a powerful and enjoyable job. the beautiful college campus can give us more pleasure and youth for everyday.
Do ypou know? our college life is more than beautiful and enjoyable than others. It is fantastic and escelened. If I can do become a college lecturer, even after college life I can enjoy that. But I don`t like to become a teacher, I would like to become a friemd to my students. From the college I will get adult and small students. I wiill try to enjoy maximum the play and small mischiefs of my students. I will shower all my knowledge to them. My students will work for the humanity and the happiness of the world. I will try my best for that. All my students will become world famous doctors, engineers, writers, social workers etc. etc....
I lead my all students to the highest position. They will give me pleasure, pride, happiness...Their good works fill joyful tears in my eyes. And for that I will provide them very good moments and education.
My roll model is Hasinin teacher. She is a lovable college lecturer. She is the eyes of her students.her knowledge is the backbon of her students. She is very intelligent and good teacher. Moreover a good humenbeing. because she is very kind, gentle and compassionate to her students. She is able to change a bad student into goo. She is the synonym of virtue. I am sure she is a 100% good teacher. So I will try to copy her teaching style and remarkable demeanuar for my teaching life.
Foot note- I welcome your opinion, correction and suggestion to my article.Thank you for reading. Please post comment. Ashna
